Relevance The Monoclonal Anti-GSK-3 / Shaggy protein kinase family, clone 4G-1E, was produced using a peptide that derives from a region of the catalytic domain (between sub-domain VII and VIII) of the Drosophila GSK-3 /shaggy enzyme. Because of the extremely high conservation of this region among the known enzymes of many different species clone 4G-1E, which recognizes the Drosophila enzyme, should cross react with all species homologues (cross-reacts effectively with rat, Sch. Pombe, Dictyostelium*). Glycogen synthase kinase 3 is a serine/threonine protein kinase that mediates the addition of phosphate molecules onto serine and threonine amino acid residues. Phosphorylation of a protein by GSK-3 usually inhibits the activity of its downstream target. GSK-3 is active in a number of central intracellular signaling pathways, including cellular proliferation, migration, glucose regulation, and apoptosis.
