Monoclonal antibody directed against CD11c antigen detects presence of macrophages, mononuclear phagocytes, hairy cell leukaemia cells and various activated T cells and neutrophils. Background and Research Application Anti-CD11c (integrin aX) was created to understand the expression of the integrin aX molecule and to look at the heterogeneity of tissue macrophages. Integrins are heterodimeric cell surface receptors composed of alpha and beta subunits, which mediate cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix attachments. Changes in integrin expression have been shown to be important for the growth and early metastatic capacity of melanoma cells and aberrant integrin expression has been found in many epithelial tumours. Integrin alpha X is found on hairy cell leukaemia’s, malignant histiocytes, on tissue macrophages, monocytes, activated neutrophils and some T-cell clones. It is a member of the LFA-1 CR3 family of human leukocyte differentiation antigens. This antibody binds to CD11c glycoprotein which helps mediate cellular adhesion and cell-matrix adhesion such as fibronectin. |

Production Details Purified using multi-step affinity chromatography with protein A. Storage Conditions Store at -20 degrees frozen. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. Points of Interest The epitope which anti-CD11c 3(.9) detects is present on a non-covalently linked dimer of 150000 and 95000 and is directed against the alpha chain of the integrin aX molecule. This antibody reacts variably with neutrophils, more strongly with monocytes and most strong on macrophages. It does not react with Langerhans cells, dendritic reticulum cells or osteoclasts. Anti-CD11c antibody can be used as a marker of mononuclear phagocytes, and for CD11c expression on monocytic cells. Shown to inhibit adhesion in Jawhara et al., 2012.
