Antigen/Gene or Protein Targets | Transformed Human Urethra Epithelial Cell line; Sexually transmitted diseases (STIs) |
Host | Human |
Disease Keywords | Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection, Gonorrhea |
Model | Immortalised Line |
Relevance |
This transformed human urethera epithelial cell line was developed to study the invasion of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in urethral epithelial cells during gonococcal infection in men. This cell line is phenotypically similiar and responds to gonococcal infection similar to primary cells based on immunofluorescence microscopy data. Cells stain positive for cytokeratin demonstrating immortalized cells are keratinocytes. Human asialoglycoprotein receptor expression and, IL-6 and IL-8 levels are increased after gonococcal infection similar to primary cells. This cell line is CD14 negative. |
Production Details | This cell line was derived from primary urethral epithelial cells (obtained from 15 male patients) immortalized by transduction with a retroviral vector expressing human papillomavirus E6E7 genes. |
Conditional | No |
Research Area | Immunology |
Recommended Growing Conditions | Prostate Epithelial Cell Growth Medium (PrEGM). Cells grow best on collagen-free lab plastic. |
