Relevance Rhesus D antigen is present in the blood of some people but not others. A RhD negative woman carrying a RhD positive fetus may develop antibodies against the fetus - termed "alloimmunisation". The ability of carrying that fetus to term will depend largely on anti-D prophylactic therapies.
