Antigen/Gene or Protein Targets | Surface protein Pfs48/45 |
Reactivity | Plasmodium |
Relevance | Fertilization and zygote development are obligate features of the malaria parasite life cycle and occur during parasite transmission to mosquitoes. The surface protein PFS48/45 is expressed by male and female gametes of Plasmodium falciparum and PFS48/45 antibodies prevent zygote development and transmission. Pfs 48/45 is therefore a good target antigen of malaria transmission blocking antibodies. |
Host | Mouse |
Immunogen | Gametocytes of the 7G8 isolate (Plasmodium falciparum isolated from a 12 year old male from Manaus, Brazil on 12th March 1980 by Dr. K.M. McNeil) |
Subclass | IgG1 |
Myeloma Used | P3/NS1/1-Ag4.1 |
Notes |
UK Biosafety level: 1 Recognises an epitope of P. falciparum Pfs48/45. Non-inhibitory in mosquito membrane feeding assays. |
