Relevance Tryptophan synthetase (Trp) is the enzyme that catalyses the last step in the biosynthesis of tryptophan: the conversion of indoleglycerol phosphate and serine, to tryptophan and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. It is commonly expressed in Eubacteria, Archaebacteria, Protista, Fungi, and Plantae but it is absent from Animalia.
