Relevance Gamma-synuclein is a protein encoded in humans by the SNCG gene. A member of the synuclein family of proteins gamma-synuclein is also believed to be involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. In particular increase levels of SNCG have been identified in advanced breast carcinomas. Gamma-synuclein primarily in the peripheral nervous system, retina, brain, ovarian tumors, and in the olfactory epithelium.
