Relevance The Integrin αVβ1 heterodimer has recently been implicated in the pathogenisis of fibrotic disease. This cell line can be used to study αVβ1 and its potential as a target for novel antifibrotic agents.
Production Details Levels of αvβ1 expression are low on parental VUP-1 cells so iterative sorting by FACS, using an anti-αv antibody(13C2) was utilised to derive sublines with 8- to 10-fold higher amounts of cell surface αvβ1 and also low-expressing variants expressing similar levels of αvβ1 to that of the parental line.

Recommended Growing Conditions The cell line can be grown as plastic adherent cultures at 37°C in an humidified CO2/air (8%/92%) atmosphere in Dulbecco’s modification of Eagle’s medium (DMEM), supplemented with 10% foetal calf serum and L-glutamine (4 mM final concentration). The cell line can be subcultured weekly using a brief treatment with trypsin(0.25% in 5 mM EDTA) to detach cells.
