Relevance ALCAM, or CD166, is a cell adhesion molecule that mediates heterotypic cell-cell contacts via its interaction with CD6, resulting in initiation and stabilization of T-cell-dendritic-cell interactions affecting T-cell activation. It also engages in homotypic cell-cell contacts. These ALCAM-ALCAM interactions have been implicated in the development and maintenance of tissue architecture and tumor progression.
