Conditioned media containing Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been used for decades to immortalize human B cells, thus providing a means for creating B cell lines. To do this historically, investigators would harvest supernatant from cultured B95-8 cells, an immortalized line derived from cotton-top tamarins. B95-8 cells are no longer commercially available and as an alternative, the inventors used supernatants from SML104 cells (from peripheral blood of squirrel monkey) to transform human B cells. |
