Derived from the HT-22 murine hippocampal neuronal cell line, these cells lack mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and can be repopulated with exogenous mtDNA (e.g., mtDNA from patients with mitochondrial disease) allowing for mitochondrial mutational analysis.
