Relevance
Some anti-elastase activity is found in cultured keratinocytes and in epidermis from psoriasis patients, but not in normal human epidermis. This inhibitory effect has been shown to be mediated by SKALP, Skin-derived antileukoproteinase also known as Elafin.

Notes
This polyclonal antibody was raised against human SKALP (Elafin) protein extracted from human psoriatic scales and shown to inhibit human leukocyte elastase. It was sequenced and shown to have 40% homology with the active site of antileukoproteinase (ALP) a known serine proteinase inhibitor present in mucous secretions.
