Antigen/Gene or Protein Targets | Tau Gene |
Disease Keywords | Alzheimer's, Pick's, progressive supranuclear palsy, corticobasal degeneration, frontotemporal dementia, Parkinsonism |
Synonyms | hTau P301S, Thy1-hTau P301S |
Model | Transgenic |
Relevance | Mutation P301S in exon 10 of the Tau gene has been shown to be involved in early clinical signs linked to frontotemporal dementia and parkinsonism with chromosome 17 (FTDP-17). This is characterised in the transgenic hTau P301S model, which exhibits the essential features of a human Tauopathy. This in turn can be used to better understand the molecular mechanism by which mutant Tau protein causes dysfunction and death of nerve cells. |
Mouse Genetic Background/Cross History | Founder animals were intercrossed with C57BL/6J mice to establish lines. Homozygosity was determined by matings with nontransgenic animals |
Zygosity | Homozygous |
Research Area | Neurobiology |
