Relevance |
Runt-related transcription factor 1, a protein that in humans is encoded by the RUNX1 gene, that regulates the differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells into mature blood cells and plays a major role in the development of the neurons that transmit pain. It belongs to the RUNX family of genes also known as core binding factor-α, and RUNX proteins form heterodimeric complexes with these confering increased DNA binding and stability. Chromosomal translocations involving RUNX1 are associated with several types of leukemia including M2 Acute myeloid leukaemia and DNA mutations are implicated in cases of breast cancer. |
