Relevance |
Protein modification through ubiquitination is an important cellular mechanism to target abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. The process of ubiquitination involves three classes of enzymes: ubiquitin-activating enzymes, ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes and ubiquitin-protein ligases. UbcH5B, encoded by the UBE2D2 gene, is a member of the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. UbcH5B is involved in the ubiquitination of p53 and two alternatively spliced transcript variants have been discovered which encode distinct isoforms. |
