Relevance |
Enterococcus durans is a bacterial species from the family Enterococcus. E. durans is a coccus, Gram-positive, catalase- and oxidase-negative bacterium and previously was named Streptococcus durans. Controlling Listeria monocytogenes in food processing facilities is a significant challenge for the food industry. In particular because L. monocytogenes is psychrotrophic, widely present in nature in nature and can form protective biofilms which make eradication using disinfectants and treatments available to control pathogens in environmental surfaces very difficult. Floor drains in food processing facilities are an area of particular concern acting as a point of contamination potentially into in food products. |
Production Details | Tryptic soy broth at 37°C for 16 hours |
Notes | E. durans 152 is very effective at controlling L. monocytogenes in biofilms and persists (confirmed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis) for as long as 8 weeks after the CE treatment. |
Research Area | Bacteriology |
