Relevance | Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) genome encodes for four major structural proteins, namely nucleocaspid (N), spike (S), membrane (M) and envelope (E). The viral RNA is packaged by the N protein into a helical nucleocapsid. Other molecular aspects of SARS-CoV N protein have also been reported, including self-dimerization, RNA-binding capabilities and its ability to activate signal transduction pathways. In addition, it was shown to induce apoptosis and actin reorganization in mammalian cells under stressed conditions. |
