Relevance HLA-C, also known as HLA class I histocompatibility antigen, Cw-1 alpha chain, also known as MHC class I antigen Cw*1, and encoded by the gene HLA-C/HLAC. It contains an alpha and beta (beta-2-microglobulin) chain and interacts with the human herpesvirus 8 MIR1 protein.
