Anti-Cathepsin L [4C11]

Invented at A*STAR Accelerate Technologies Pte Ltd

Info

Catalogue Number 152642
Applications IF WB
Antigen/Gene or Protein Targets Cathepsin L, HCL
Reactivity Human
Relevance Cathepsin L is expressed in most cells but in a higher level in cancerous cells. Normal levels of cathepsin L is involved in the regulation of epithelial cell proliferation and differentiation in the skin. It is recognized that many cancer cells secrete cathepsin L to degrade the components of extracellular matrices and basement membranes. This promotes tumor invasion and metastasis. The pro-form of cathepsin L exists as a molecular size of 50kDa. The pro-form could be degraded and secreted out as two smaller forms of cathepsin L. These smaller forms are known as the mature forms. The pro-forms and mature forms are secreted out of the healthy cells. However, there is a significant increase in levels of pro-forms that are secreted out of the cancerous cells. Monoclonal antibodies generated against pro-form of cathepsin L would be useful for diagnostic purposes.
