Relevance | B lymphocyte-associated adaptor protein (Bam32) is 32 kDa and is expressed in high levels in the germinal center (GC) of B cells. It consists of a src homology 2 (SH2) domain at the NH2 terminal which binds phospholipase C (PLC) gamma 2 and a pleckstrin homology (PH) domain at the COOH-terminal. Bam32 acts as an adaptor that integrates protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) necessary for signaling in B cells. Bam32 is recruited to the plasma membrane upon B cell receptor (BCR) ligation. BCR ligation induces colocalization of Bam32 with lipid rafts, clathrin, and actin filaments. BCR internalization which is actin dependent occurs subsequently. Bam32 also play a part in B cell proliferation. |
