Antigen/Gene or Protein Targets | Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule (NCAM; CD56) |
Synonyms | Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule; NCAM; CD56 Antigen; MSK39 |
Reactivity | Human |
Relevance | NCAM, also known as CD56, is a homophillic binding glycoprotein present on a variety of neural cells including neurons, glia, skeletal muscle and natural killer cells. NCAM has been implicated as having a role in cell-cell adhesion, neurite outgrowth, synatptic plasticity, learning and memory and in the development of the nervous system. |

Recommended Growing Conditions | DMEM + 5%FCS |
Notes | Anti-NCAM [UJ13A] is a diagnostic reagent in the characterization of neuro-ectodermally derived tumours and in the identification of metastatic spread to the bone marrow. In addition UJ13A has been used in radio immunoscintigraphy of neuroblastoma and brain tumours and in targeted radiotherapy. |
