Murine Podocyte Cell Line

Invented by Prof Moin Saleem from University Of Bristol
Invented at University Of Bristol

Info

Host Mouse
Tissue Kidney
Model Primary line
Relevance Cell line to study the determinative steps of podocyte differentiation and process formation.

Background and Research Application
The conditionally immortalised murine podocyte cell line allows an in-vitro process of maturation analogous to the development and maturation of podocytes in-vivo. Both proliferating and differentiating MPC cells express the WT-1 protein and an ordered array of actin fibres and microtubules extends into the forming cellular processes during differentiation, reminiscent of podocyte processes in vivo. The result is a homogenous, stable cell source that shows expression of key antigenic markers of differentiated in-vivo podocytes. These include the novel podocyte proteins nephrin, podocin, CD2AP and synaptopodin.
Conditional Description Immortalization is conditional by use of a temperature-sensitive transgene encoding SV40LT
Research Area Other
Recommended Growing Conditions RPMI-1640, Insulin-Transferrin-Selenium, Foetal Bovine Serum (10% v/v), Pen/Strep medium at at 33°C or 37°C, 5% CO2.
