Relevance The Ca2+ sensor Synaptotagmin, encoded by the gene SYT1, is located in the membrane of the pre-synaptic axon terminal and a member of the Synaptotagmins family of membrane-trafficking proteins. This family is characterized by an N-terminal transmembrane region, two C-terminal C2 domains - C2A and C2B connected by a variable linker; the mammalian synaptotagmin family has 15 members.
