Relevance The hemagglutinin (HA) protein is one of two major surface glycoproteins on the envelope of influenza A virus. The HA protein is responsible for receptor binding to host cells and for viral entry and is therefore the primary target of neutralizing antibodies. LM41 recognises an epitope of the A/WSN (H1N1) HA antigen only when expressed in H-2k cells. LM41 inhibited Ag-specific, MHC class I-restricted lysis of H-2k target cells infected with a vaccinia recombinant virus expressing the HA of A/WSN by CTL from A/WSN virus-infected H-2k mice.
