Relevance Mucins are a family of highly glycosylated, large molecular weight glycoproteins which are associated with many epithelial cells. Muc3 is a major glycoprotein component in a variety of mucus gels, which at a variety of musocal surfaces are thought to provide a protective barrier against particles and infectious agents.
